Joan Bennett's Gravesite

Pleasant View Cemetery,

Lyme, Connecticut
June 24, 2004

During summer vacation in 2004, I discovered that Joan Bennett was buried less than an hour from where I now live. One day I went out driving around Old Lyme, looking for the cemetery, and wandered around a gigantic one for about two hours. I found out a week later I was at the wrong cemetery, in the wrong town. So on June 24, I had to drive out to New Haven to get my schedule for the next semester all set up, and then decided to drive around western CT for a bit before meeting up with a friend in Fairfield at one of my old hangouts...Starbucks. I left Fairfield at 4:30, I think, and it was about 6:00 by the time I was in Old Lyme again. I decided, since I had a couple hours of daylight left, to get off the highway there and drive up to Lyme, to the actual cemetery, and visit her grave. I stayed for a while, taking pictures and looking around, so there are more than just pictures of her grave here. The postcard at the bottom is of Joan Bennett in 1941, taken by Godfrey Herbert, "The World Explorer". (I found it in a random antique shop in 1998.)

Pleasant View Cemetery is on the corner of Rt. 156 and Salem Rd. in Lyme, very close to the East Haddam and Salem town lines.
